Intel® has been a reliable partner for WEROCK since the beginning, supporting our robust tablets, rugged notebooks, and industrial computers based on the x86 platform. This blog post provides an overview of the Intel processor series we use and their suitability for various application scenarios.
Intel® frequently uses codenames for its processor generations. Here is an overview of the processor series by generation:
11th Generation Intel® – Tiger Lake
The 11th Generation “Tiger Lake” features powerful mobile processors with improved energy efficiency, modern Intel® Iris® Xe graphics, and optimized performance for compact, mobile devices, ideal for demanding tasks on the go. This generation was first introduced with our rugged notebooks Rockbook X540 and Rockbook X550 G2. Compared to previous generations, it offers significant performance improvements and long-term availability. Intel launched these processors in Q3 2020. Although some CPU models have since been discontinued from active sales, they continue to be produced and supported, with all necessary security updates provided. Recommended for classic industrial and control applications with moderate performance requirements, where solid performance and reliability are sufficient.
12th Generation Intel® – Alder Lake
The 12th Generation “Alder Lake” introduced Intel’s hybrid architecture, combining powerful performance cores and energy-efficient cores. Mobile processors in this series stand out with improved energy efficiency, strong multitasking performance, and extended battery life. With Alder Lake, Intel launched its first major attempt to compete effectively against the highly successful ARM architecture. We first integrated Alder Lake processors into our Rocktab S512 rugged tablet. The new architecture provided a significant boost in mobility, making the Rocktab S512 one of our top sellers. Ideal for rugged mobile devices requiring good battery life and capable of handling more demanding multitasking tasks effortlessly.
13th Generation Intel® – Raptor Lake
The 13th Generation “Raptor Lake” continues Intel’s hybrid architecture approach, combining powerful performance cores with efficient cores. It provides strong computing performance, enhanced energy efficiency, and excellent multitasking capabilities. Considered a more mature evolution of Alder Lake, Raptor Lake technology forms the basis for our upcoming Rocksmart industrial computers, scheduled for release in 2025. Compared to Alder Lake, Raptor Lake increases the number of efficiency cores, further enhancing battery life and multitasking performance, delivering optimized overall performance and improved energy efficiency, especially for demanding mobile applications. This generation debuted in our flagship rugged tablet, the Rocktab U210 Pro. Perfect for users with high demands on performance, energy efficiency, and flexible multitasking, especially suitable for intensive industrial tasks and complex mobile applications.
14th Generation Intel® – Meteor Lake
The 14th Generation “Meteor Lake” introduces Intel’s chiplet design for the first time, further enhancing efficiency and performance. Mobile processors of this generation offer advanced AI capabilities and even better battery life for demanding mobile applications. The new processors with integrated AI Boost NPU are available in our latest rugged notebooks Rockbook X540 G3 and Rockbook X550 G3. Compared to previous laptop series models, they offer significantly higher performance and improved energy efficiency, marking another significant development step in Intel processors. Optimal for users requiring high mobile computing performance, extended battery life, and AI-supported functionalities. Especially suited for demanding field operations, industrial automation, and data-intensive mobile applications.
15th Generation Intel® – Arrow Lake
The 15th Generation “Arrow Lake” builds on the architecture introduced with Meteor Lake, delivering further improvements in performance and efficiency with optimized power consumption. Mobile users particularly benefit from increased productivity, longer battery life, and a compact form factor. Arrow Lake processors will join the WEROCK portfolio, first appearing in industrial computers and later likely expanding to other product categories. They ideally complement the concurrently available Raptor Lake processors. The ideal choice for future, particularly high-performance industrial applications and scenarios requiring peak performance, efficiency, and future-proofing. Perfect for users needing maximum available performance and cutting-edge technology.
Industrial Tech for Tomorrow
In summary, each Intel® processor generation at WEROCK is specifically selected to meet distinct requirements and application scenarios. While Tiger Lake and Alder Lake provide a solid foundation for robust and mobile standard applications, the latest generations such as Raptor Lake, Meteor Lake, and Arrow Lake offer significant advantages for demanding industrial tasks, high computing performance, and efficient multitasking.
